Local homeowners partner with Hudson Chamber businesses for the annual Holiday Homes Tour. Exhibition will include displays and interpretation focused on Old World Christmas traditions in the New World. Visitors to the Octagon House will learn the origins of traditions carried from the Old World, shared among settler families (like the Moffat’s of the Octagon House in Hudson), and blended into a New World Christmas.
Homeowners are typically selected by June, and the majority of decorating is completed well before Halloween. A Queen Anne Victorian includes original flooring, woodwork, and Eastlake style hardware. The main level is decorated with Bradbury and Bradbury wallpapers featuring nature-inspired designs.
Deck the Halls with Hudson't Tour of Homes
Friday night is reserved for the Evening Dazzle Tour, a self-guided version of the tour. On Saturday and Sunday, a shuttle bus will be available to take guests on the tour. Not only is the event a huge undertaking for business and homeowners, but many volunteers are needed to help facilitate traffic flow and security. “It’s become a driving force for the holidays here in Hudson as a kick-off event and is one of the biggest shopping days of the year in downtown Hudson,” says Jorgenson, who notes an average of 30 businesses are active in the event.
Each room of a home that could be described as a San Francisco modern beach house features a different theme, providing a variety of Christmas experiences. Now in its 35th year, the Christmas Tour of Homes continues to feature lavishly decorated homes. Celebrate the holidays with a fantastic tour of four spectacularly decorated homes and the Octagon House Museum. We are a registered 5013 organization established in 2019 by the members of the St. Croix Valley Home Builders Association. Our mission is to advance the education of individuals who aspire to work in the construction trades and provide affordable housing for Wisconsin’s veterans, homeless, and underprivileged. The eclectic decorating style includes unique souvenirs and mementos in addition to greenery throughout the home. Organized by the Hudson Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism, the event welcomes around 2,000 tour-goers to privately owned homes, as well as the historic Octagon House, which are each uniquely adorned in their most festive holiday décor.

The tour typically is held over the Wisconsin hunting opener the weekend before Thanksgiving, making it a popular ladies’ weekend, and there is a special list of lodging properties that offer discounts for the tour weekend. We have mothers, daughters, granddaughters going,” Jorgenson says.
Shoppers also can enjoy a craft sale and marketplace at the Hudson House Grand Hotel with jewelry, apparel, ornaments, household goods and gourmet foods. We even decorate the laundry rooms,” says Andrea Jorgenson, director of communications and programs for the Hudson Chamber of Commerce. The chamber plans for the event all year, from selecting the homes to coordinating tour logistics.

The event offers a traditional tour on Saturday and Sunday, which includes transportation, or you can drive yourself. Last year, the event also offered a Dazzle Tour on Friday night, where people viewed the homes amid the nighttime sparkle and glow.
The decorations and vignettes might be inspired by the homeowners’ own traditions. We’ve had a homeowner who was very into his garage decorate a tree in his garage with hardware, tools, wrenches and two snowmobiles under his tree,“ Jorgenson says. Growing up Colleen wasn’t sure what she wanted to do after school. This all changed when a shop teacher invited her to try out his class. Besides being passionate about the trades, Colleen “likes to stick out and make a difference and being a girl in the trades makes that possible”.
